And yes, we do get out of the house

Going into this homeschooling thing, I knew about the common misconceptions people have. The S word---socialization. Always the first thing people ask about. (Do you KNOW my kids? Yeah, that's not a problem.) I'm just going to brainstorm here and see what all I can remember about what people have assumed about us or asked us about.

  1. "You homeschool? Oh girl, I so do not have the patience for that!"---So apparently you have not been to my house during the day. Patience is one of the fruit of the Spirit that I have to ask the Lord to bring to the top EVERY day. Because an abundance of patience? I ain't got it. What I do have is a desire to be obedient. To this call to homeschooling that God has given to me. Plain and simple.

  2. "Do your kids get to be around other kids?"---Between church 3 times a week and sports and neighborhood kids and kids at Chick-fil-A and kids at the park and kids at the library and kids at the gym and kids.... yes, they are around kids plenty. More importantly, they are around people of all ages every day. They are able to interact with adults as we go to the grocery store, to Target, to the bank, to get the oil changed, to get a haircut. They ARE learning social skills, but not from a classroom full of kids their own age. And who wants to learn social skills from a bunch of 7 yr olds anyway?

  3. "I couldn't be around my kids all day long. I'd go crazy!"---While I may be well on my way to the crazy train myself, I really like being around my kids. Yes, I have my moments when I want to lock myself in the bathroom, BY MYSELF PLEASE! And yes, going grocery shopping alone is SO much easier. But really. I have been blessed beyond words by being entrusted to raise these children and NOBODY loves them like I do (except their dad!). I can't imagine sending them to be under someone else's supervision for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I'd miss too much. I'd miss THEM too much. And I know those 2 sentences are all about me. But bottom line, the Lord has given them to me/us for a time to raise and for me that includes education.

So apparently the brainstorm only got me to number 3. More like a shower than a storm I guess. Maybe I'll open it up to you! Do you have any questions about homeschooling? Homeschoolers, do you have anything to add? Help me out here, friends!

(And how about this for some blatant discrimination against homeschoolers. And I LIKE Subway! )

Hey girl! Loved this post! But before I comment on that, my parents are in Weaverville....do you know where that is??

So, listen to this, I've REALLY been thinking/praying about homeschooling maybe in the next two years. I AGREE, it HAS to be something God leads you to do!! But, I want to know how much it really costs. Have you heard of Grace Academy?? What do you think about doing those types of programs? What does your routine look like during the day? Ok, that's enough from me. =)

You are so funny! I am glad that you are sharing your heart! Good for you! The Lord is blessing and He will continue to show you, and others if they seek Him, how your school is suppose to look! It's awesome and I am glad you are doing it!
Love you!
Miss you!

You are one awesome home schoolin' mama!
And shame on Subway...AFA sent that email out last week and I couldn't believe it! I guess they received so many complaints from AFA and homeschool organizations that they issued an apology and said in future contests they won't exclude them. But I'll just keep on truckin to Quizno's! :)

Love this post!
Agree Agree Agree
I have other points I could mention, but really those three are the biggies that most people ask about.
I love being around my kid, too!

So, you called me out and I had to comment on this one!! But, do you feel you are qualified to teach your kids?? Aren't you scared you will miss something?? There are so many more! The blessings far outweigh any other "issues." Still trying to decide on a title for the blog. I will let you know when I come up with one.

Wow! Very inspiring! I am so glad I stopped by your blog today! I am going to be homeschooling my oldest next yr, who is 9 and going into 4th grade. I have 2 other boys who I will eventually each year bring home. I want to get my feet wet with my 9 yr old first so reading your 2 latest blog entries have been very uplifting for me. I get the same questions and conversations about interactions and such. I agree with everything you said and want you to know that your choice of words were well put! :) Thank you for sharing what God placed on your heart as it has now blessed me beyond measure!!! God Bless....

It is about 12:ooam. I have been on the internet researching homeschooling to make sure I have all my ducks in a row for next year. I think I have it all. I decided to take a break and check your blog to see how the trip went and I came across your inspiring convo on homeschooling. You are one of the people who helped me take this leap. I guess it was a confirmation, for I too fought the idea for about 2 years. It has truly been a blessing. Thank you for your honestly, it makes me feel human. However, I will be driving the crazy train when you board.

Hope your sickness didn't keep you from enjoying the mission trip too much. Sounds like you are doing better. Have a goooood week!
