Scripture Memory - Verse 12!!

Well obviously I have led a very exciting and blog-worthy life the last 2 weeks!  Actually we had a fantastic time with family at the beach.  I didn't take a ton of pictures though so there's not much photographic evidence to share.

Also, I have had lots of opportunity to reflect on my last verse.

"Cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you."  1 Peter 5:7

The time for verse 12 really snuck up on me!  What with all the reading and playing in the sand and swimming in the pool and playing fifty-seven games of Uno a day.

So as I try to recover from my post-beach slump, I'll be memorizing this:

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."  Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)

Here's one little nugget for you to enjoy:

Scripture Memory - Verse 11

This is going to be short and sweet.  I'm at the beach and using Wi-Fi at a little snack bar.  And really, who wants to be blogging when everybody around you is eating big cones of ice cream and you forgot your wallet?  I've got to get out of here!!

"Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths.  Guide me in your truth and teach me.  For you are God my Savior and my hope is in you all day long."  Psalm 25:4-5

My next one is short and sweet, just like this post!

"Cast all your anxiety on Him for He cares for you."  1 Peter 5:7(NIV)

I've known this scripture but not the address for a long time, although I think I always knew it as "cast all your cares".  The word anxiety holds a whole new meaning for me in this verse.  I can get a little lot anxious at times, so I'm going to be saying this frequently I think.

So I'll be scarce around the blogosphere for the next few weeks.  Don't miss me too much!!  haha

Scripture Memory - Verse 10!

My word are the weeks just flying by or what?  I am absolutely loving learning God's Word like this.  And more than any other verse (well besides the one on condemnation) I have repeated this one out loud so many times!

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, and of power, and of a sound mind."  2 Timothy 1:7

Thank you Lord!!

I love the next verses.  Special emphasis on "all day long!"

"Show me Your ways, O LORD, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You ALL DAY LONG."   Psalm 25:4-5 (NIV)

I love that His mercies are new every MORNING, but Praise God my hope can be in Him all DAY LONG!!  Can I get an AMEN?

Scripture Memory - Verse 9

These weeks are just flying by!  It's already time to pick another one!

Time to test myself:

Let us then come before the throne of grace with confidence so that we can receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of  need.  Hebrews 4:16

For this next verse, I'm switching translations.  I know you're shocked.  I like the KJV and NKJV of this verse since it uses the word "fear" instead of "timidity."

Here it is:

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."  2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)

Now I have to go write it on the plate

Scripture Memory Challenge - Verse 8

I am really loving this scripture memory challenge.  I've started writing my verses on our white decorative plate by the sink.  And considering how much time I spend there, I should seriously have my new one memorized by this evening. ha!  (Thanks for the idea, Deidre!)

And now I will astound you with my memory:

"Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus"               1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Ta-da!  You'll just have to trust me that I typed that from memory.  And I did, except that I left out "always".  Just being real.

So next time's verse is this:

"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."  Hebrews 4:16

Ready, set, memorize!!

Scripture Memory, Verse 7

I picked out my verse for the next 2 weeks yesterday and even wrote it in my notebook but never got around to posting about it.  It's just par for the course lately around here.  As I sit in my pj's at noon.  Sigh.

Here's the verse I've been working on:

"The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.  He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love.  He will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17

I've struggled with the exact wording on this one for some reason.  But I get the overall meaning of the verse and I don't want to be all legalistic.  I'm going to keep working on this one in addition to my new one.  Especially the "quiet you with His love" part.  Sometimes I just need to be quieted by Him.

My new verse:

16Be joyful always; 17pray continually; 18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Scripture Memory - Verse 6

It's time to pick a new scripture to memorize for LPM's challenge.

Here's last time's:

"Since then we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men.  What we are in plain to God and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. "  2 Corinthians 5:11 (NIV)

For the next 2 weeks I'll be memorizing Zephaniah 3:17:

"The LORD your God is with you,
       he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing."

I read that in my Jesus Calling book this week and I knew I needed to commit it to memory.  It also makes me sing "Mighty to Save" every time I say it, so that's always good!  Love that song!

Happy memorizing!  (It's not to late to join in!!)  Go here.  There's gonna be a party at the end!!

Scripture Memory - Verse 5

It's round 5 for LPM's scripture memory challenge.  This time I'm adding to the two verses I learned last time.

Here goes:

"So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for things done in the body, whether good or bad. " 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 (NIV)

(OK I looked back and it is "appear" instead of "stand", but same thing I guess.  Although I'm thinking I may be more face down instead of standing, can I get an Amen?)

And verse 11 is:

"Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men.  What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience."

Happy Memorizing!!

Scripture Memory - Verse 4

This week I'm officially signed up for the LPM scripture memory challenge.  My verse for the next 2 weeks comes from the Target group at our new church.  It's actually 3 verses, but I'm learning the first 2 this time and I'll add on the last verse next time.

"So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad."  2 Corinthians 5:9-10

I'm off to learn some scripture!!

Condemnation vs. Conviction

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1-2

That is the verse I'm memorizing the first 2 weeks of February. I'm doing the scripture memorization challenge from the LPM blog although I haven't actually signed up for it. So I guess I'm not officially participating, but participating all the same.

I've recently been able to put a name on the feelings I've been having. Condemnation. Not conviction from the Lord. But condemnation from the enemy.

Perhaps you've felt it too and didn't really know what it was. That feeling of not measuring up. Of thinking you'll never have a powerful quiet time like so-and-so does. Or you aren't worthy of blessings from the Lord. Or if anyone knew your past they would never look at you the same.

Or that because God DOES know your past and your thoughts He doesn't love you like He loves somebody else who seems to have it all together.

Here's a little clue I've received lately that you may or may not know.

NO ONE has it all together.

Not me, not you, not your friend who never seems to yell at her kids. Not your boss, not your pastor, not your Bible study leader.

NO one. Because we are all human. And we all mess up. But we ALL by the grace of God have the same chance to be saved from our crazy past (and present and future) sins and live in FREEDOM!

Salvation means freedom! Freedom from condemnation. Freedom from trying to do it all by yourself. Freedom in life and freedom in death.

"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36
