American Idol - Top 9

Here I sit, running behind again, snacking on cinnamon Teddy Grahams left over from Becca's softball game tonight. (Which they WON by the way.  My baby was 3 for 3!  Totally gets ALL her athletic ability from her daddy and I couldn't be more proud.)

It's Popular Download Week.  Also known as A Way To Show Ryan At His Other Job.

Anoop Desai -  "Caught Up"  Vocals aren't great, Dawg.  The first part is not that good for me.  He's performing well, working the crowd.  He's getting a little 'tude with the judges.

Paula's hair is looking a little flat again.  I bet my friend Faith is loving that.

Megan Joy - "Turn Your Lights Down Low"  A little Bob Marley action.  Not sure how I feel about this.  Gracious could she HAVE more going on with the necklaces and the top?  She just looks like she doesn't know what to do on stage.  I'm just not digging her anymore.  I totally agree with Simon on this.  It was monotonous.

Danny Gokey - "What Hurts the Most"  Good song choice for him.  I like this.  Great job.  He's BACK!!  I'd buy that in a hot minute!

Allison Iraheta - "Don't Speak"  Did she just say she GREW UP listening to No Doubt?  Oh bless it.  What in the world is up with that hair?   I think No Doubt is a good move for her.  She screaming a little, but is it rocker screaming or just screaming?

Scott MacIntyre - "Just the Way You Are"  Ok I admit I heard this earlier live when I was putting kids to bed and I'm going to listen to it again.  I love that it's just him and the piano.  Fabulous.  It was fabulous. ;)  And seriously.  What about that hair!  At least they didn't put him in pink pants again.

Matt Giraud - "You Found Me"  Really who could believe he was in the botton 3 last week?  Oooo a little keyboard in the audience action.  Oh goodness the kids around him trying to clap is distracting me.  Get it together people or just STOP IT!  I think he did a good job.  But who are we kidding?  I could barely pay attention.  The judges REALLY didn't like it.  Yikes.

Lil Rounds - "I Surrender"  I can't think how this song goes.  Surely a Celine song has some BIG moments.  Oh, I really like her hair!  Well I didn't love it.  There were definitely a few big note moments but I'm not so sure about it.

Adam Lambert - "Play That Funky Music" What was that little walk he was doing?  Elvis hair is back.  Ok, great performance.  And you don't know how bad it hurt to type that last sentence.  Did Paula just put him in a category with Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler?

Mandisa!!

Kris Allen - "Ain't No Sunshine"  I like this arrangement.  I LOVE IT!  I'm pretty sure I'd buy anything he sings.  Woo Hoo!!!!

My faves tonight are Kris, Danny, and Allison.  I think Megan is going home.

The Osbournes are next.  Just another sign that Jesus is coming back SOON, people.

Missions and Fundraising

If you've been reading my blog for more than 5 months (or if you know me in real life!), you know I've been on a few mission trips to Brazil in the past year and a half.

And I'm so excited because WE'RE GOING BACK!!!!

Daniel has the opportunity to go on a vision trip to the Amazon in June. Y'all, I'm talking canoes, tents, and fishing for piranhas. So yes, we have a little bit of crazy up in here!

Now in September, the saner of the two of us is going back to Solidao. Well, he's going too because he's LEADING the trip. See, I told you. CRAZY.

AND we are super excited that our friends Chad and Faith have finally decided to go with us! We've been bugging them to go since we went the first time, so I'm pretty sure they're only going so we'll get off their backs. Nah, actually Faith wrote a great post today all about why they are REALLY going.

Of course the funding for these trips is always an issue. We're starting fundraising early this time, as in on April 16!! You can go here to find out about World Outback Ministries and the golf tournament fundraiser.

More than anything, we covet your prayers. We can't and don't want to go without being bathed in prayer. You can pray for the team as it comes together, travel, health, opportunities for sharing the gospel, and the people in the villages that we'll visit.

Right here's what it's all about.

American Idol - Top 10

Well, I'm getting a late start tonight.  It's already 9:30 and I'm just watching.  Bright side---- I get to fast forward through all the commercials AND Paula's comments  so, you know, YAY!

Motown Week!

(We're trying to hang a ledge for pictures (from IKEA!) tonight as well.  So who knows how this is going to go.  I already have to pause it!)

Matt Giraud - "Let's Get it On"  Ok is it just me or is he dressed a little geeky for this sexy song?  I already saw this performance at my brother's earlier tonight, but I couldn't really hear it.  Nobody can really compete with Marvin Gaye singing this, so it's good he's making it his own.  I like the falsetto parts.  Well done.

(Is anyone else as grossed out as I am over the Osbourne's new show?  That guy kissing the grandma makes me gag.)

Kris Allen - "How Sweet It Is"  I love me some Kris Allen and apparently so does Smokey Robinson.  I'm seriously hating his shirt.  That was reeeeallly good.  I disagree with Simon about him needing to be conceited.  There's a difference in believing in yourself and being conceited.  Keep it real, Kris!

Scott MacIntyre - "You Can't Hurry Love"  I'm not quoting my husband but there may have just been a comment about vision problems and those pants.  Kind of weird song choice for a guy, but he's going to make it original I'm pretty sure.  (Who's seeing Runaway Bride in their heads?)  He's not the strongest voice of the competition but dude can play some piano.  That was pretty good.  Definite great performance, vocals pretty good.  (Oh how funny was that about the pants!  They didn't tell him they were pink until 10 min before!  That's just wrong.)

Megan Joy - "For Once In My Life"  I'm not so sure her voice is great for this song.  I'm not loving it.  Granted I was reading an email from my friend Ashleigh to Daniel while she was singing, but I didn't like it.  And now apparently the judges aren't feeling it either.  But man, girlfriend is flat out gorgeous.

Anoop Dawg Desai - "Ooo Baby Baby"  He's gonna have to HIT those notes or it will be baaad.  Sounds good to me but we all know I'm not a music genius.  I liked it.  Tough song and he did great.  I must say I really like Kara this year as a coherent female voice on the panel.

(The picture ledge is hung!  Yay!  It looks so cool!)

Michael Sarver  - "Ain't Too Proud To Beg"  This song always makes me want to dance.  It's hard to type and dance.  That was ok.  He's still at least 4th or 5th behind some of the other guys in my opinion.

Seriously what is up with Randy's sweater?

Lil Rounds - "Heat Wave"  Well at least she's dressed for the genre this week.  That pink prom dress for country week was killing me.  I feel like she's screaming at me.  She's got a great voice, but she's just yelling.  It was just ok for me.

Adam Lambert - "The Tracks of My Tears"  Oh what up with the hair?  I fast forwarded through the beginning so I'm just seeing this.  He doesn't even look like the same guy.  Maybe he should have done that for the Johnny Cash song.  Or Elvis week.   I don't want to like him, I really don't, but that was great.  Original and just awesome.  Props to you, dude.

Danny Gokey - "Get Ready"  He didn't take Smokey's advice.  I still like it though.  I usually agree with Simon but not on this one.  They are rushing.   They better not go late or my DVR will cut off!!!

Allison Iraheta - "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone"  Good song choice for her voice.  I'm thinking the performance of the night.  That last note was outstanding.  Maybe Simon and Paula should pay attention to the performances instead of drawing on each other.  Ya think?

Ok, no time to proof this.  I've got a load of clothes to fold and my bed is calling!  Peace out!

Continue praying for Baby Stellan

Prayers for Stellan

Baby Stellan is still struggling with SVT.  He's having an echocardiogram to check heart function today.  Keep on lifting him to the Throne!
Also, yesterday his mom Jennifer wrote the most amazing post.  It is the most clear and real explanation of prayer I have ever heard.  Go read it

Pray for Stellan

Little Stellan is sick and in the hospital again.  Pray for MckMama's sweet little MckMuffin.  Things are scary right now for them and they need God's mighty hand to touch little Stellan's heart.  Go on over and give Jennifer some encouragement.

Giveaway Winner!!

You all probably thought I was being a slacker about the giveaway, didn't you?  Well, I was!

Not really.  I left for the beach Thursday morning and just got home tonight.  No kids, no men, and NO internet!

I went on a ladies trip with a crazy bunch of girls from our new church.   Some old friends and some new ones and it was a blast!

So anyway, we did the drawing tonight (meaning I wrote the names down and Daniel drew one out while he was watching the Duke game).  And the winner is.......

MiMi!!!!!

MiMi is my friend Faith's mom and probably if you read Faith's blog then you read MiMi's.  She's a beautiful, sweet, godly lady and I'm blessed to know her in real life!  AND she loves Starbucks!

Congrats MiMi!  Hopefully I'll have the prize by tomorrow morning and bring it to you at church!  haha!

Happy Blogaversary to Me!

And only 3 days late!  Can you believe I didn't even know it was my one year blogaversary?  Only after I saw Faith's post on hers did I remember!  We started our blogs on the same day actually.

A year ago we were on our 3rd month of traveling to Florida with Daniel for work.  We were there for 2 weeks at a time, January through March.  It was fun, stressful, lonely, and an adventure.  We went to Disney, the beach, Spring Training, the aquarium, and the mall (A LOT!)  The kids and I explored Clearwater and Tampa, found local parks and playgrounds, and every Chick-fil-a in the area.

Looking back, it was a really cool opportunity for our family and I learned a lot about myself in the process.  And in the middle of it all, I decided to start a blog.  After calls to my buddies Melissa (who already had a blog) and Faith, I figured it out and started to blog!

There were lots of sarcastic comments and teasing from my husband (you're shocked, I know!), but now he at least reads it and even lets me quote him

This blogging thing is kind of an odd thing to do and has turned out to be way more fun than I thought it would be.  I've met people I never would have otherwise and been challenged and encouraged and impressed by even people I already knew.

So I'm sure I should do a giveaway, right?  I've never done one before!  Oh, the pressure!

Ok, how about a Starbucks gift card?  Anyone??  Just comment and I'll put your name in a hat and let one of my kids draw it out.  Cause I'm oh-so-techy and that's how I roll!

(And don't think because you're my real life friend you can't enter the giveaway!  I think you're about the only people who read this thing!)

American Idol - Top 11

I'm back!!  Last week I watched Idol in our nation's capitol at a viewing party at the White House with Barack and Michelle.  Fun was had by all.  Although I did have to call it a night when the Pres broke out in the Thriller dance.  There's only so much a girl can take.

Ok, well, I WAS in DC and I did watch Idol.  Hopefully I'll get around to doing a post on Homeschoolers Go To Washington soon.

Grand Ole Opry Week!!  Yahoo!

Michael Sarver - "Ain't Going Down (Till the Sun Comes Up)"  Love me some Garth Brooks y'all.  I denied my love for country music all through high school and believe me, I was in the minority.  I finally gave in in college and accepted my fate to love the music of my people.  Ok, enough about me.  Michael keeps saying he isn't a country singer, but who you kiddin' Texas boy?  Probably not a great song choice overall but a good performance.

Let me say right here that talking back to the judges is one of my pet peeves.  STOP. IT.

Allison Iraheta - "Blame It On Your Heart"   Good song choice, fits her voice well.  She's a great performer for such a young one.  Is it just me or does she NOT sound 16?  Daniel thinks she matched her jacket to her hair.  Probably not an easy thing to do.

Kris Allen - "To Make You Feel My Love"  (Hey, from Hope Floats, Faith!)  Ok, before he starts, let me say I seriously like this guy.  And I thought it was tacky when Simon said he shouldn't have brought out his wife yet.  They're so cute!  Now, I think he's singing this well and I love that it's a little different than Garth's.  Unfortunately, he's been overshadowed by Danny and Adam so far.  Maybe tonight that'll change.  "Tender moments from my dawg Kris."  Randy really has a way with words, doesn't he?

Lil Rounds - "Independence Day"  Not loving the dress.  Doesn't say 'country' to me.  Definitely not her style of music but girl's got some pipes.  The last half showed that off.  Cracked me up when Simon called her "Little".

Adam Lambert - "Ring Of Fire"  Ok, seriously that video of Adam and Randy was funny, awkward, and made my day.  I don't really like Adam and I'm hating this song choice.  I mean, do you really do THAT to a Johnny Cash song?  Not loving it.  I feel like the judges all want him to win and he can do no wrong.  And now I love Simon.  He's the only one up there with any sense.

Scott MacIntyre - "Wild Angels"  That was pretty good.  The beginning was a little slow for me but he picked it up at the end.  And for the record I like him playing the piano.

The judges are arguing a lot tonight.  I'm a little annoyed by that.

Alexis Grace - "Joleen"  That was ok for me.  Is she off a little?  It sounds a little flat or sharp or something.  Oh, I don't know.  Let's see what the music people say.  Ha!  I was right!

So now we're just having all out conversations with the judges?  Shut. It.

Danny Gokey - "Jesus Take the Wheel"  Bless his heart, he's choking in front of Randy Travis.  Hopefully he does better live.  Not sure he should have picked a song so related to another Idol.  He's rockin' it though.  Not loving the white coat.  Just sayin'.  He's still my fave.

Seriously, it's like Simon and I are sharing a brain tonight.

Anoop "Dawg" Desai - "You're Always On My Mind"  Two lines in and---Yo dawg!  Anoop's back!!!  I absolutely love that arrangement.  LOVED IT!  Yeah baby!

Megan Joy -  "I Go Walking After Midnight"  When did she become just Megan Joy?  I'm not sure she's quite popular enough yet to drop her last name. I seriously don't think she can sing without doing that little dance move.  Wouldn't have guessed she was sick.  If I close my eyes so I don't see the tatoo or the dance, I like it.

Matt Giraud - "So Small"  Y'all I'll admit it.  I was not crazy about this season at first, but there are some great singers this year.  Matt does not disappoint.  Great job.

I can't pick a bottom 3.  I can't even pick a top 3!

My favorite of the night was Anoop.  Least fave was Adam.

What did you think?

Scripture Memory - Verse 6

It's time to pick a new scripture to memorize for LPM's challenge.

Here's last time's:

"Since then we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men.  What we are in plain to God and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. "  2 Corinthians 5:11 (NIV)

For the next 2 weeks I'll be memorizing Zephaniah 3:17:

"The LORD your God is with you,
       he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing."

I read that in my Jesus Calling book this week and I knew I needed to commit it to memory.  It also makes me sing "Mighty to Save" every time I say it, so that's always good!  Love that song!

Happy memorizing!  (It's not to late to join in!!)  Go here.  There's gonna be a party at the end!!

It's Official. I'm old.

I've just spent the last 5 days with 5 teenaged boys and 1 teenaged girl.  And the verdict is.....I'm old.

I'm 36.  And I really do realize that's not THAT old.  And most days, I don't feel old at all.  I actually still feel like I'm in my 20s.

But this week I found myself watching Kanye West on Idol and fussing at him for not pulling up his pants.  I had never heard the song he was "singing" and felt very out of the loop.

Add that to the fact that said teenaged boys were laughing at the adults, (me included, whendidibecomeanadult?) for judging Kanye's clothing and song choices and you have a recipe for feeling like an old lady.

Oh and plus we totally watched hours of FOX News.

I have never felt more like my father.  Have mercy.  (No offense, Dad.)

Not me! Monday

This is my first Not me! Monday post.  I love reading MckMama's blog and these are especially entertaining.  She's a wife and mom and she's just getting real and being honest.  And cracking people up, one post at a time.

So here's what I did didn't do this week:
I certainly did not pay our car payment to the cell phone company last month.  And I did not just realize it last night!  And I did not get all red and sweaty telling my husband about it.  Nope, not me!

I also did not leave food in a crock pot all day and then discover at about 5pm that it had quit working.  Not me!  And then I did not suggest Zaxby's for dinner.

Finally, I did not leave the hair clippers bag out on the counter to remind me to cut Hayes' hair and then not cut it for 2 days.  Because I never forget to do things and NEVER leave sharp instruments within reach of little children.   And that DID NOT result in my 3 yr old getting hold of the scissors and cutting a chunk out of his own hair!  Nope, never happened!

Head on over to my charming kids to see what MckMama and everyone else has not been doing all week!

American Idol - Top 36 - Wild Card

I didn't realize there was even a show tonight!  And I had big plans to iron my new curtains while I watched Survivor and The Office.  What to do, what to do?

And they better hope they put Tatiana at the end because if I have to start my night off listening to her drama I might just turn it on over to Survivor and then we'd have a very short post.

Oh look, she's NEXT TO LAST!  And Anoop Dawg is last!  So you know I totally have to watch until the end.  Those sneaky little Idol people.

As I said on Facebook today, if Tatiana makes it to the Top 12 then AI is dead to me.  That's it, I'm DONE!  I'm just sayin'.

Here we go.  (Didn't we just do this?)

Jesse Langseth - "Tell Me Something Good"  I like her voice but I don't think this was a great performance.

Matt Giraud - "Who's Lovin' You"    Not loving the scarf, but that's neither here nor there, I guess.  Interesting, fits his style.  Good choice for him.  He sang, what?  3 lines of the song?  That's weird.  How long are they giving them to sing, like 25 seconds?

Megan Joy Corkrey - "Black Horse and The Cherry Tree"  Oh it's the shimmy, twisty dance again.  STOP IT!  Remembering Katherine McPhee singing this.  It was ok for me.  I like her so I'm torn.

Von Smith - "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word"  Starting out weak.  What is up with his hair?  I didn't really like it.

(Oh for goodness sake, spit it out already, Paula.)

Jasmine Murray - "Reflection"  I love her so I'm pulling for her.  Good song choice.  Way better than her last time.  You go girl!

Ricky Braddy - "Superstition"  I'm so glad he is getting a second chance.  He got cheated the first time since no one had even LAID EYES ON HIM before the first Top 36 show.  He rocked it!  He's representin' the Tar Heel state well!

Tatiana Del Toro - "Saving All My Love For You"  All I'm sayin' is don't let her talk.  And right off the bat, she talks.  And, WHITNEY!  She's wearing Paula's bracelet.  Girl can sing, so maybe if there's a clause that she can't talk or cry or thank anybody, it would be ok.  Oh, SHUT UP ALREADY.  That's all.

Anoop Desai - "My Perogative"  Didn't he sing this already?  I don't care.  I love the 'Noop Dawg.  (But seriously what was up with the tie in the clip?  Is that a Carolina frat boy thing?)

Uh oh, Simon's comment about putting personality through makes me nervous!

I pick Jasmine, Ricky, and Anoop.

We'll see what the judges say.  I'm going to iron during the commercials. Back in a flash.

Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.  And yay for Top 13!

Finally, The Office is new!  Later!

American Idol - Top 36 - Week 3

Top 36, round 3 for this odd little season on AI.  Also known as the Season Of The Poor Song Choice.  Finger crossed!

Von Smith - "You're All I Need To Get By"  He was warned about screaming at people in Hollywood.  I feel a little screamed at  already.  Maybe next time he can be a little more expressive.   I'm with Simon on the outfit.  Hate it.

Taylor Vaifanua - "If I've Got You"  Not crazy about the beginning but half way through it got way better.  She's good.  I liked it but it might be forgettable.  What in the sam hill is up with Paula's necklace?  On the up side Ryan's stylist seems to be back from vacation.

Alex Wagner-Trugman - "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues"  He's a funny kid.  Losing points for the dancing.  And the growling.   He's a little young to be singing about stuff going on under the covers, don't you think?  Awkward.  He's a cutie, but I'm not crazy about that performance.  Now I kind of feel like I've kicked a puppy.

Arianna Afsar - "The Winner Takes It All"  Love me some ABBA. This one is probably too old for her though.  The judges are going to hate it unless she knocks it out of the park.  Well, I think the last half was better than the first, but she struggled.  She's just so cute.  Say it with me.  AS A BUTTON.  Oh bless her.

Ju'not Joyner - "Hey There, Dehlila"  Not exactly starting out as a fun and lively guy.  I'm bored.  I did not like that.  I have never heard that song and I don't like it at all.  And BAM, the judges love it.  This is why Kara replaced me this year.  Why do people even read this?

Kristen McNamara - "Give Me One Reason" Ok, I didn't know it was possible to have a "boo-boo" at the hair stylist and end up with purple hair.  Let's all hope that isn't a common problem.  Finally an upbeat song.  Girlfriend can SING.

Nathaniel "Drama Queen" Marshall - "I Would Do Anything For Love"  Somebody go snatch that headband off his head.  I remember his back story from Hollywood week.  Lives with his grandma, parents aren't around.  I feel sorry for the guy.  He's definitely searching for something.  Oh somebody share Jesus with him.  That was ok.  He might make it through just on personality.

Felicia Barton - "No One"  I liked it a lot.  She kind of sounds like Nelly Furtado.  Glad she got to come back.  Bravo.

Scott MacIntyre - "Mandolin Rain"  It's ok.  A couple of rough spots.  I really like him.  He does better with the piano so I hope he gets through.  High five, dude!

Kendall Beard - "This One's For the Girls"   I bet she can belt out some Martina.  Not that I necessarily remember her belting out anything.  Good song choice.  Maybe I spoke too soon.  It was ok.  Not great.  She struggled to hit some notes.  But great dress.

Jorge Nunez - "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"  He did way better than I expected him too.  I really liked it!  REEEallly, reeeeally good, dawg.  I love that he said when he gets so excited he can't think in English.  I know how he feels.

Lil Rounds - "Be Without You"  Love Lil!  And seriously, what a name.  Lil Rounds.  First, she looks beautiful.   Best performance of the night for me.  She's going FAR.  Far, I tell you.

My picks are Lil, Scott, and either Jorge or Kristen.  I can't pick 3.  And you can't make me.

Winter Blast '09

Don't you just love how the local TV stations give snow/ice storms names?  Winter Blast!  Winter Storm '09!  Snowapolooza '09!

Four inches of snow deserves a fancy name in the south, let me tell you!  I joke, but I LOVE it!  I've always loved the snow and still get excited for even the hint of it.   So they can call it whatever they want.  I call it A Day When I Feel Like I'm 8 Again.

                        009

                        013

                        020

                        024

                        032

                        017

                         022

They wore Daniel OUT!

The only thing that would have made this better is if my mom, Ashleigh, and her mom lived closer!  We used to live down the street from Ashleigh's family and her mom would  knock on the door when it snowed and ask if my mom could come out and play.  Crazy ladies!  Miss y'all and think of you EVERY time it snows!

Scripture Memory - Verse 5

It's round 5 for LPM's scripture memory challenge.  This time I'm adding to the two verses I learned last time.

Here goes:

"So we make it our goal to please Him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.  For we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for things done in the body, whether good or bad. " 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 (NIV)

(OK I looked back and it is "appear" instead of "stand", but same thing I guess.  Although I'm thinking I may be more face down instead of standing, can I get an Amen?)

And verse 11 is:

"Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men.  What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience."

Happy Memorizing!!
