Warning: Kind of heavy for a Saturday!

A little something happened today that took me out of my comfort zone. Don't you love it when that happens? Anyway, it's not a huge deal but it did involve me being convicted by the Holy Spirit and then being obedient. I'm not saying this to toot my own horn, but it did get me thinking about how often I'm NOT obedient.

You know, when you get that feeling in your stomach and you KNOW you should do something but you really don't want to. Then come the excuses.

I don't have time.

I can't really do it.

I'm not good enough.

Somebody else will/can/should do it instead.

Lord, You're not really that serious about this, are you?

Um, yea, He kinda is. Not that He's going to strike you down if you don't. (well, who knows. He could, I guess) But obedience is a big deal.

Obedience is certainly a big deal when you tell your daughter to clean her room and she doesn't do it. It's certainly a big deal when you tell your son not to hit his sister and he does it anyway. It's certainly a big deal when someone drinks alcohol, drives a car, has a wreck and kills someone.

So why do we think being disobedient to the God of the universe isn't a big deal? Maybe because He doesn't immediately come down from Heaven and put us in time-out? I don't really know the answer. I just know that I'm not as obedient as I should be.

Funny that this happened as I'm reading a book called A Life of Obedience (by Andrew Murray). Seriously. I couldn't make this stuff up.

So I don't have some huge revelation or three point sermon on the subject for you. Just a challenge, for you and for myself. Let's strive to be more in tune to the prompting of the Holy Spirit and what He's calling us to do, big and small.

And then let's just, in the words of Beth Moore, DO THE THING, y'all.

I hear ya girl. It's true. We don't think that there will really be consequences for disobedience to God, but there are!! Thanks for the reminder!! Love you!

This is very true. I know exactly that feeling that you are talking about in your stomach when you don't want to do what you know you should do. Oh we are good with the excuses, aren't we?
Thank you for putting things in the right perspective about obedience. I needed this reminder.

Great post! We are going through the Seeking Him bible study and we just finished up the one on obedience and boy was it a hard one.

Oh, this is good stuff. I know that feeling too, and I needed this reminder to make the choice to obey immediately! It is serious and excuses are no excuse.
Love you! Praying for an obedient day for us all!

So true. Obedience is very important, and we often gloss over it, like God is going to smile at it like we are a child full of mischief. That is how my blog got it's title. The lessons of obedience in Deuteronomy 28. It is always good to share what the Lord is teaching....Thank you.
